Explaining the Title
My idea to title this blog There Is No "Other" comes from the regularly discussed idea within the study of Sociology which states that identities, whether they be cultural or individual, are often formed in opposition to that which an individual or group consider to be different from themselves. The process of "othering" takes place during identity creation and occurs when one makes decisions about who they are, based on what they know they are not. In the end, while "othering" can serve as a method for helping us to identify ourselves, it can also serve as a way of dividing us from our fellow human brothers and sisters. It can lead to pride, and pride can lead to conflict. So in a nutshell There Is No "Other" is my short statement to the world that we are all the same. We are all at the very least sons or daughters; human creatures driven by both logic and emotion. I hope this blog will be able to serve as a means of promoting two things. 1. How alike we all really are. 2. How little our differences should matter. I hope to update often and intelligently enough to make this little site something worthwhile. Thanks for reading. Sincerely, Jeff
